Actor throws weight behind G8 protest

Huntsville, Ontario— Globe and Mail Update

The protests in the town of Huntsville are nowhere near what's expected in Toronto. But that hasn't stopped actor Bill Nighy from making his voice heard.

Calling himself a "benign nuisance," Mr. Nighy said Friday he's here to remind G8 leaders meeting in nearby Deerhurst to move poverty up their agenda. He's here as an ambassador for Oxfam.

"I'm an actor. I'm not an expert in international affairs," Mr. Nighy said. "I'm simply able to draw a little bit of attention so I just wander about the place and I hope that people like yourself will listen."

Mr. Nighy has been in such films as Love Actually and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Arriving in Huntsville on Thursday, Mr. Nighy is already taken with the cottage-country town.

"I love it here. I want to live in Huntsville," he said.
