Six things you (maybe) didn't know about Palin

Even with all the media coverage of Sarah Palin and her campaign for the vice-presidency, the book includes these seven things about her you probably didn't know:

The McCain campaign billed her nearly $50,000 for “having been vetted,” an accusation denied by the McCain campaign.

She's aware of her own ignorance of major foreign-affairs issues such as the Middle East, the Iraq war or Islamic politics. “I knew the history of the conflict,” she writes, “to the extent that most Americans did.”

She was nonchalant when John McCain first called her about the vice-president's slot, writing that it felt “like a natural progression.”

She rewrote the McCain campaign's statement announcing her daughter's pregnancy, only to watch in horror as a TV news anchor read the original, which in Ms. Palin's view glamorized and endorsed her daughter's situation.

In college she had a gay roommate, who she writes about with affection and sensitivity.

When she met Oliver Stone on the set of Saturday Night Live , she refused to shake his hand because he's fond of that America-hater Hugo Chavez.

She wasn't thrilled with the idea of appearing on Saturday Night Live after they'd lampooned her repeatedly. Mr. McCain's campaign staff pressured her into it, she says.
