London commuters were scrambling for alternative transportation on Tuesday as a 48-hour subway strike brought public transit in Britain's largest city to a crawl.
London Underground kept most lines running on reduced service after workers with the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers union walked out Monday night over the closing of ticket offices and job cuts. Antique London buses were brought back into service to help meet the city's transit demand.
The Tube, as London's subway is known, handles more than three million passengers a day.
