The absence of Kimmo Timonen is not going to change anything in the Pittsburgh Penguins' approach to their NHL playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers.While much of the hockey world substantially discounted the Flyers' chances of upsetting the Penguins in the Eastern Conference final when their best defenceman was lost for the rest of the playoffs because of a blood clot in his ankle, the Penguins say they were not counting on anything when the series opened last night.

The Philadelphia Flyers were dealt a stiff blow on the eve of their NHL playoff series against their cross-state rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, when they learned their best defenceman will be lost for the rest of the postseason.


Flyers, Penguins take different routes to get to the same point

They share the same state, but no affection for each other. Their coaches are bitter rivals going back to the days when each led the AHL farm team of the big club.
