Columnist Leslie Beck

Biography 


As one of Canada's leading nutritionists, Leslie operates a successful private practice in the heart of downtown Toronto. For the past 16 years, Leslie has helped thousands of individuals achieve their nutrition and fitness goals. Leslie operates an "integrative nutrition practice", offering clients both dietary advice and science-based recommendations on the use of nutritional and herbal supplements.

Leslie is recognized by the media as an authority on nutrition and food issues and as such, is an experienced communicator in television, radio and print media. She writes a weekly column in The Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper, and also hosts The Discovery Channel's Foodstuff, a daily nutrition program. Leslie appears weekly on CTV as Canada AM's nutrition expert. She is also a regular guest on Balance TV (CTV), aired nationally weekdays. Leslie's nutrition advice can be heard two mornings a week on Toronto's CFRB Morning Radio. In addition, Leslie is regularly interviewed and quoted by MacLean's, Chatelaine, Homemaker's and Today's Parent magazines, as well as CBC Radio, TV Ontario, and CTV News.

Leslie is the best-selling author of six books: Healthy Eating for Preteens and Teens (Penguin Canada, 2005), Leslie Beck's Nutrition Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy (Penguin Canada, 2004), Leslie Beck's Nutrition Guide to Menopause (Penguin Canada, 2003), Leslie Beck's 10 Steps to Healthy Eating (Penguin Canada, 2002), Leslie Beck's Nutrition Encyclopedia (Prentice Hall Canada, 2001), and Leslie Beck's Nutrition Guide for Women (Prentice Hall Canada, 2001). In addition, two of Leslie's books on women's nutrition are published in the United States.

In addition to her private counseling practice, Leslie consults with many leading businesses and international food companies located in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. She delivers nutrition seminars and workshops to corporate groups in North and Latin America. Having a strong interest in sports nutrition, Leslie acted as nutritionist to the Canadian International Marathon (1995-1997) and regularly speaks to running groups. Leslie keeps fit herself by running, cycling and weight training.

Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Leslie obtained her Bachelor of Science (Dietetics) from the University of British Columbia and proceeded to complete the dietetic internship program at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Canada. She is a member of Dietitians of Canada, the College of Dietitians of Ontario, and the Consulting Dietitians of Canada.
