Judging by the news flow on Yahoo, the fate of the world's top Internet destination has turned into a dizzying, confusing dance among every other Web giant that doesn't want to end up one day in exactly the position Yahoo now finds itself - with investors and customers questioning whether it has the mojo to persist as an independent, thriving company. Thus you have the on-off-maybe-sort-of-on deals with Microsoft - which dropped its $42-billion (U.S.) takeover bid in May - and persistent reports News Corp. (via MySpace), and AOL are all in various forms of do-si-do around Yahoo.

If indeed the cinematic powerhouses behind DreamWorks SKG part ways with the Paramount Pictures film studio and go into business instead with India's Reliance Entertainment, there is, at least, an oratorical symmetry there: Sumner Redstone, the chairman of Viacom Inc., which owns Paramount, coined the term ''multiplex'' and Amit Khanna, the chairman of Reliance, famously coined the phrase ''Bollywood''.

On Tuesday night, The Drudge Report recorded the clinching of the Democratic Party nomination by Barack Obama with a photo of the candidate and mostly black family members and the headline ''June 2008.'' It was a nice, understated look for Matt Drudge, the site's synonymous founder-editor, who is better known for bringing a sensational, opinionated, and idiosyncratic flair to digital news, particularly in the political arena. Another Drudge touch was that underneath the headline and photo Drudge arrayed photographs of the front pages of three British newspapers, The Guardian, The Times and the Independent, and their respective takes on Obama's triumph.
