Biography 
William Houston worked in news at the Toronto Sun and sports at Canadian Press before graduating from the Ryerson School of Journalism in 1980. He joined the Globe sports section that summer as an intern and stayed on to cover hockey until 1990.
Houston wrote two books on Harold Ballard: Ballard, A Portrait of Canada's Most Controversial Sports Figure (1984) and Inside Maple Leaf Gardens, The Rise and Fall of the Toronto Maple Leafs (1989).
In 1991, he began writing The Globe's Truth and Rumours column, and he finished another book, titled Pride and Glory, 100 Years of the Stanley Cup. With Globe hockey writer David Shoalts, Houston wrote Eagleson: The Fall of a Hockey Czar in 1993.
Houston has been writing his Seen and Heard column on the sports media since 1997.
