Doug Brooks, President and Chief Executive Officer of Transamerica Life Canada and its subsidiary Canadian Premier Life has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc. (CLHIA).
Mr. Brooks joined Transamerica in 2008 as President and CEO having brought with him extensive experience gained through previous executive roles at prominent Canadian insurance companies.
Mr. Brooks holds a degree in mathematics and actuarial science from the University of Waterloo and is active in numerous professional and industry associations. He is a Fellow, Society of Actuaries (FSA); Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA); Fellow, Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA); and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
Established in 1894, the CLHIA is a voluntary association whose member companies account for 99 per cent of Canada’s life and health insurance business. The industry provides a wide range of financial security products such as life insurance, annuities (including RRSPs, RRIFs and pensions) and supplementary health insurance to almost 27 million Canadians. It also holds $571 billion of assets in Canada and employs about 139,000 Canadians.
