Robert Parizeau, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, is pleased to announce the appointment of Gaétan Morin as the new President and Chief Executive Officer.
Gaétan Morin has been with the Fonds de solidarité FTQ since 1989. Prior to becoming Executive Vice-President of Corporate Development and Investment, Mr. Morin served as a financial advisor, portfolio manager, investment manager and Senior Vice- President, Natural Resources and Consumer Goods.
During the time he was responsible for the Fonds' investment activities, the number of business partners grew sharply, from 1,681 in 2006 to 2,467 in 2014. Furthermore, under his leadership, the Fonds' development capital investments in Quebec businesses doubled, from $3 billion in 2006 to $6 billion in 2013.
Well-respected in the business community, Mr. Morin has served on several boards of crown, public and private corporations, including those of the Association de l'exploration minière du Québec and the Fondation de l'Université du Québec à Montréal. He is currently a member of the boards of the Fondation de l'entrepreneurship and SSQ Financial Group.
Mr. Morin holds a Master's in Economic Geology from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and an undergraduate degree in finance and geology. In 2005, he was awarded the Prix Mérite Ressources by the Ordre des géologues du Québec.
With net assets of $10.1 billion, the Fonds de solidarité FTQ is a development capital investment fund that calls upon the savings of Quebecers.
