Mr. Simpson is a current member of Suncor’s Board of Directors, having served as chair of the human resources and compensation committee, as well as a member of the governance committee. His appointment took effect upon the retirement of former chair John Ferguson at the end of the company’s Annual General Meeting on April 29th.
Mr. Simpson was previously a director of Petro-Canada and is past president of Chevron Canada Resources. He is also past chairman of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers and past vice chairman of the Canadian Association of the World Petroleum Congress.
Mr. Simpson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science and graduated from the program for senior executives at MIT’s Sloan School of Business.
Mr. Simpson’s signifi cant experience in corporate governance, as well as being a leader in business and in the resource industry will help guide Suncor, Canada’s leading integrated energy company, as it builds on its resource base and production assets to responsibly develop petroleum resources.
