Making important changes in the culture of a company is never easy. It is essential to get the full support of employees. And that is exactly what's happened at PowerStream, the innovative, Ontario-based energy company. It starts with how the work force gets to and from the office. Almost thirty percent of employees commute to work via either a vanpool or carpool - saving 280 tonnes of pollutants per year an eliminating 40 vehicles from the road each rush hour. As well, all office locations feature electric vehicle charging stations and PowerStream has  purchased two fully electric vehicles for its fleet.

The company is also a leader with its in-house reduction and recycling programs which include disposal options for items not commonly accepted in municipal waste collections such as light bulbs,  batteries and e-waste. A collection of exterior milk bags (over 2,500 in the space of just over a year) were crocheted together by a group of five employees into sleeping mats which were used to improve the lives of people in Haiti.

PowerStream also holds an annual Environmental Awareness Week which features a wide range of activities and workshops to encourage employees to lead a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

"We are honoured to be receiving this award," says Brian Bentz, PowerStream President and CEO. "Being recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers is a testament to how our employee engagement initiatives have helped us to successfully create a `Go Green with PowerStream' culture, now embedded in the DNA of our organization.
