“We’ve been working closely with the local business community for many years. We are committed to meeting their needs today, and also delivering the new products and services that ensure their competitiveness in the future,” Ron Styles, CEO of SaskTel

When heavy rainfalls caused flooding in several Saskatchewan communities this summer, a local insurance office was among those affected by extensive water damage. In a bid to quickly assist its clients who were also impacted by the extreme weather, the insurance company turned to SaskTel.

As the largest telecommunications and ICT provider in the province, SaskTel has the ability and networks to efficiently deal with situations like this, says Ron Styles, CEO of SaskTel. "We helped the company get set up in another facility very quickly, and they were able to help their policyholders in a timely manner."

This is just one example of the kind of responsiveness that has cemented SaskTel's reputation for award-winning customer service. It also illustrates a dedication to fostering solid and long-standing relationships with clients that include many of Saskatchewan's businesses.

"We've been working closely with the local business community for many years. We are committed to meeting their needs today, and also delivering the new products and services that ensure their competitiveness in the future," says Styles.

Guarding against the loss of essential information is among the areas that customers from a variety of sectors have identified as a priority. SaskTel has responded by developing a number of data storage facilities. "We've been involved in data centres for supporting our own IT functions since the 1980s. Since we have the real estate and the connectivity, we subsequently extended these capabilities to our customers and are providing managed hosting and co-location services," says Styles.

Todd Blahitka, operations manager for SaskTel data centres, reports that there have been zero outages and zero unavailable time in these facilities, an important consideration as they house crucial files from a wide range of clients, including government, corporations and private parties.

There are currently four progressive classifications for data centres, and Blahitka says a new top-of-the-line Tier III facility will bring SaskTel's capacity to a combined total of 31,088 square feet in six different data centre locations, four in Regina and two in Saskatoon.

"By leveraging economies of scale, we can give our customers access to these kinds of world-class facilities," says Styles. He adds that it is part of SaskTel's vision to provide integrated solutions for strengthening the province's businesses and economy.
