North Star Homes Inc. has launched the second and final phase of Timber Trails, a community of townhouses and semi-detached homes adjacent to Altona Forest in Pickering.
Situated in an established neighbourhood near Altona Road and Strouds Lane, the latest collection includes 53 freehold townhouses and 10 semis. The 70 homes in the first phase have been sold and are occupied.
People have been attracted to the site because of its location on a quiet street, where some lots back on to the forest and others have sloping grades that allow for basement walkouts, sales representative Robert Supczak says.
"Typically, subdivisions are bland and flat . . . they don't have much character, but we're surrounded by greenspace," he says. "When you couple that with what [buyers are] actually receiving in the homes . . . it makes for a very good package."
The homes will have traditional brick exteriors with vinyl casement windows, stone accents and precast concrete windowsills and frames. There will be garages, covered porches and, in some plans, balconies.
Inside, large foyers have been avoided in order to give as much space as possible to the principal living areas, Mr. Supczak says. "We've tried to maximize" the space in the family rooms, kitchens and master bedrooms, he explains.
Floor plans vary from traditional to open-concept kitchens and family rooms, while some designs feature second-floor family rooms with gas fireplaces.
"We also offer a lot of beautiful features . . . so people aren't having to spend money down the road to upgrade these homes," he says, citing oak staircases, nine-foot ceilings on the main floor and vaulted or cathedral ceilings in some rooms.
For added visual interest, a few designs feature art niches or decorative columns on half walls. Ceramic tile, 35-ounce broadloom and natural parquet floors are among the standard finishes.
Local amenities include new schools, shopping venues and restaurants, as well as easy access to Highway 401 and public transit. Recreational outlets can be found at Rouge Park to the east and on the waterfront further south.
