Brentwood Bay Lodge Ltd. is hoping to appeal to new set of buyers, a group it has dubbed "pretirees," with its small project of oceanfront villas at its five-star lodge and spa on Saanich Inlet.

The developer believes that the six condo-style villas will appeal to people looking for a Vancouver Island luxury property that they can enjoy as a recreational home now, and that will also see them into retirement. A boutique hotel-style pre-retirement home, in other words.

The OceanVillas, priced at nearly $1.4-million, have two bedrooms and a den and offer gourmet kitchens, seamless indoor/outdoor living spaces with double sided fireplaces, and large oceanfront balconies with views over the inlet and the Malahat Mountains.

Owners will have full access to the adjacent Brentwood Bay Lodge and Spa's facilities, including a fitness club, spa, award-winning wine cellar and restaurant, heated outdoor pool, and full-service marina.

"The OceanVillas provide a carefree investment in luxury with all the activities associated with seaside resort lifestyle," says Dan Behune, president of the Brentwood Bay Lodge and Spa.

As well, he notes, "the location is second to none."

"The OceanVillas are sited in the heart of Victoria's wine country and only 10 minutes from Victoria International Airport, 15 minutes to the B.C. ferries and 20 minutes to downtown Victoria."

The developer is also committed to green building practices, aiming to meet the LEED for Homes standards.

The OceanVillas have been built with Vancouver Island quarried stone, hardwood flooring certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, and green roofs on garages.

Interior and exterior finishings are designed to match the lodge's "West Coast contemporary" style, Mr. Bethune says.

The idea behind the OceanVillas project, he says, is to prove that "luxury lifestyle and green living can go hand-in-hand."
