The Action: In the northern outskirts of Burlington, close to horse farms, golf courses and parks, it's not uncommon to take a year to market a property for sale. The exception to the rule was this new, custom-built estate home on a 1.6-acre lot that netted offers from two serious house hunters.

What They Got: Six years ago, a builder constructed himself this 3,646-square-foot residence luxuriously appointed with nine and 10-foot ceilings, reclaimed oak hardwood floors, ledge rock and travertine finishes from Owen Sound and Peru, respectively.

A private backyard with a heated, in-ground, salt-water pool, hot tub and cabana can be accessed from a sunken family room with a wood-burning fireplace or a combined kitchen and dining area on the main floor that also has private master wing with a dressing room and the largest of six marble bathrooms.

The second floor is sectioned off with an study area and three bedrooms, while the 2,456-square-foot basement is divided for a guest bedroom, office, gym, wine cellar and media area with a wet bar and leather banquette.

Creature comforts include a central vacuum system, butler's pantry and main floor-laundry room, as well as interior access to a triple garage.

The Agent's Take: "The builder actually lived in the house and designed it, so it had a very warm feeling when you walked in and every detail of the house was considered in regards to quality," says agent Karen Paul, who cites custom archways and Owen Sound ledge rock façade as examples. "This was one of the nicer homes in the area."

Even the backyard was equally striking. "It had a full view and an exceptional view of the escarpment," Ms. Paul adds. "And it had 100 acres behind it, which you can't touch it because it's a conservation area."
