The Action: Homeowners rarely give up their place at the St. Lawrence lofts, so this one-bedroom loft received an offer quite quickly in February. Another buyer kept in contact with listing agent Christopher Kowal in case that bid fell through and presented their own once it did.
What They Got: A heritage building that originally served the operations of a wholesale grocer in 1858 was converted into lofts, such as this 478-square-foot suite remodelled by Stroudfoot Design, known for their work on Kultura, Origin and Nyood, and Commute Design in 2008.

The Agent's Take: "The fellow who redid it six year ago hired Stroudfoot Build Design – they only do restaurants renovations – so this is their only residential project and they did a gorgeous job," Mr. Kowal said.
"The thing I really liked was the backsplash in the kitchen: it was a sheet of stainless steel that had been dipped in acid, left to rust and finished with a clear finish, so you could see the texture."
The historic building is also highly prized. "It's the first pre-Confederation conversion building … it has original exposed brick and wide beam supports, so those are very distinctive and beautiful," Mr. Kowal notes.
"There are maybe two or three sales every year, which is not a huge amount and they sell very quickly when they come up because of the location. Everyone wants to be by the St. Lawrence Market."
