On-line retailer Abebooks.com has acquired Iberlibro.com, a major virtual seller of used and antiquarian books in the global Spanish-speaking world. The move, announced yesterday, came a week after Casa del Libro, a prominent book chain in Spain, uploaded a quarter of a million new books onto the Abebooks site, the company said. The Iberlibro.com acquisition will accelerate Abebooks' growth in the Spanish book market, boosting by two million the on-line retailer's inventory of 60 million books. Iberlibro's network consists of 296 booksellers from 15 countries. "Iberlibro has a very broad selection of unique Spanish-language books from a large group of experienced and specialized booksellers," says Hannes Blum, chief executive officer of Abebooks. Iberlibro will operate as a partner website with Abebooks, he said.
