Analysts expect Alcoa profit growth
Alcoa Inc. reports fourth-quarter, 2006, results. Analysts expect profit of 66 cents (U.S.) a share, up from 35 cents a year earlier.
Analysts forecast first-quarter profit of 5 cents (U.S.) a share for Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering Inc., up from 3 cents.
Supervalu Inc. releases third-quarter results. Share profit of 57 cents (U.S.) is expected, up from 53 cents.
Economics
The Conference Board of Canada issues its latest economic forecast, Canadian Outlook — Winter 2007.
Wednesday, Jan. 10
CanWest releases first-quarter results
CanWest Global Communications Corp. releases first-quarter results. Analysts expect profit of 39 cents a share, down from 46 cents a year earlier.
Genentech Inc. releases fourth-quarter, 2006, results. Profit of 55 cents (U.S.) a share is expected, up from 34 cents.
Economics
Statistics Canada releases its new housing price index figures and building permits data for November, 2006. Statscan also issues Canadian international merchandise trade numbers for November, 2006.
Economists forecast a deficit of $59.5-billion (U.S.), compared with $58.9-billion in the previous month.
Thursday, Jan. 11
Cogeco, cable unit report on first quarter
Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Cable Inc. release first-quarter results. Analysts expect profit of 27 cents a share for the parent, down from 28 cents from a year earlier, and 23 cents for the cable unit, up from 22 cents.
Economics
The U.S. Department of Labour reports initial jobless claims for the week ended Jan. 6. Economists forecast 325,000 new claims, compared with 329,000 in the previous week.
Friday, Jan. 12
U.S. retail sales figures on tap
The U.S. Commerce Department releases retail sales data for December, 2006. Economists forecast an increase of 0.7 per cent, compared with a 1-per-cent rise a month earlier.
The U.S. Commerce Department also issues business inventory figures for November, 2006. Economists expect a 0.4-per-cent increase, unchanged from the previous month.
