Bombardier Inc. has clinched a $771-million (U.S.) order for 96 metro vehicles from the Stockholm Public Transport Authority.

Bombardier's rail unit – Bombardier Transportation – said on Thursday that the contract includes an option for up to 80 more of the Movia C30 vehicles.

The vehicles are made up of four cars, with a driver's cab at each end.

Delivery is scheduled to begin in November 2016.

Berlin-based Bombardier Transportation says the order bolsters its position in the international metro market.

Cities that Movia is present in include Berlin, Shanghai, New Delhi and Montreal.

Bombardier Transportation also has new automated vehicles entering service in Singapore.

The company says it has sold more than 4,000 Movia cars to date.

Among recent wins are contracts to supply 410 subway cars to San Francisco and 300 subway cars to New York City.

Other contracts include one to supply 1,771 new Movia vehicles to the London Underground, and one for 614 Movia cars for Dehli Metro.
