In the past year, Globe Careers launched our Salaries Series, which looked at an array of professions to check out everything about them: how much you might make, what education was required, and the good, bad and ugly about it as well.

They were simple, but resonated with readers. Overall stories in the series garnered more than 800,000 hits in the past year. And when readers read one in the series, they continued to click on all the other articles in the series to find out more.

Here's the Top 10 of 2013:

1. What do so many parents say they want their children to be when they grow up? Doctor of course. That was our most-read in the series so far.

I want to be a doctor. What will my salary be?

2. It's close to impossible to get a tenured job at a Canadian university, but people wanted to read about it anyway.

I want to teach at university. What will my salary be?

3. We all want to be at the top, right? Well, everyone wanted to read about what it takes to get their at least.

4. Even though it's a real challenge to get a full-time teaching job in Canada, this was the most-read in the series so far.

5. Everyone has had some involvement with a nurse at some point in their lives. And people wanted to read more about them and why they chose their profession.

6. Apparently, a lot of people wanted to learn what they had to do to be a number-crunching bean counter. It's a job that's tough to get in to, but the prospects are good once you're there.

I want to be an accountant. What will my salary be?

7. Readers also liked to look at jobs that meant less sitting and more action. Construction work is booming across Canada, just look at Toronto's rising condo skyline or the number of jobs available in the oil sands out West.

I want to work in construction. What will my salary be?

8. Globe readers love to learn more about what goes on down on Bay Street, so it's no surprise the article about being a financial analyst grabbed readers' attention.

I want to be a financial analyst. What will my salary be?

9. We used to say secretary, but no longer do administrative professionals just type letters, answer phones or get coffee, as in the show Mad Men. The job is just so much more.

I want to be an administrative professional. What will my salary be?

10. I think most people who read this one just wanted to check out what it really is like to be a journalist today. The key point? It's a tough job market out there whether you're starting out or a seasoned professional.
