Business and engineering students from around the globe rank technology giants Google Inc., Apple Inc., and Microsoft Corp. in the top 10 of the world's most attractive employers, according to a survey to be released Tuesday.

But for the first time, Montreal-based Bombardier Inc. made the list of the top 50 companies ranked by engineering students in the survey by Universum, an employer branding organization. The Canadian aerospace engineering company ranked 47th on the list.

Bombardier and its 2,700 employees celebrated another success on Monday when its C Series jet had its maiden flight after years of delay. The launch of the jet puts the company into heated competition with aerospace giants Airbus SAS and Boeing Co.

Universum, which has undertaken this survey for the past four years, questioned nearly 200,000 business and engineering students at the top universities in the world's 12 largest economies: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, Britain and the United States.

"The reason why these employers are seen as being attractive is due to their strong association to attributes that students consider important, such as market success, professional training and development, and providing secure employment," Universum's chief executive officer Petter Nylander said in a release.

"This might come as a surprise as there is a view of Gen Y valuing more corporate social responsibility, a friendly work environment and flexible working conditions," he added.

For business students, the top companies were Google, Ernst & Young, Goldman Sachs, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Microsoft, Apple, Deloitte & Touche, KPMG, Coca-Cola, and Procter & Gamble.

The list for engineering students also placed Google at the top, followed by Microsoft, IBM, Apple, BMW Group, General Electric, Intel, Siemens, Sony and Shell.
