If you're older than 40, these companies may have your sweet spot. The 2010 winners of the Top Employers for Canadians Over 40 reflect some of the best workplaces in the country for older workers. Employers made the list, which is organized and evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers, based on the following criteria:

-Special initiatives and programs to assist older employees.

-Recruitment of new workers older than 40.

-Human resources policies regarding the concerns of older employees.

-Pension plans with employer contributions.

-Retirement assistance and succession planning.

-Organized social activities and volunteering to keep retirees connected to former co-workers.

-Extended health benefits.

-Mentorship to ensure skills are passed on to the next generation.

-Phased-in retirement.

Now in its ninth year, the Top Employers for Canadians Over 40 competition was originally called the Top Ten Employers for Experienced Workers until this year. The evaluation process includes a detailed review of the employer's operations and HR practices. Winning companies have been compared to other employers in their industry and region.
