editor’s note

What does leadership mean to you? What are the challenges of being a leader today? What issues do leaders of companies today have to tackle? Globe Careers wants to bring that insight to our readers with our new Leadership Lab series.

This new weekday online series taps great leaders to share their advice and their savvy viewpoints with Globe readers.

We've contacted leaders from a variety of sectors to be regular contributors to this new series. They'll bring their expertise and educated perspective to Globe readers interested in learning about the latest management and leadership challenges. The series gives Canadians access to the best minds in the country and around the world on leadership and management issues, written in a conversational way. And each week, the best article from our contributors will be published in Friday's Career page in Report on Business.

All the articles can be found online at tgam.ca/leadershiplab.

The series began last week and already Globe readers have received communication tips for leaders from Pat McNamara, the CEO and founder of APEX Public Relations; a view from McGill management professor Karl Moore as to why more business graduates are choosing a career over children; how leaders need to cut the drama at work by leadership expert Michelle Ray; how leaders need to be able to improvise like a jazz musician from leadership expert Doug Williamson; and why talent is so important in business today from LinkedIn Canada's Brian Church.

In the coming weeks, expect columns from leaders at Telus, eBay Canada, Best Buy Canada, Labatt Breweries, Cancer Care Ontario, PepsiCo Canada, Virgin Mobile Canada, and a number of authors and business school professors from across Canada.

In a time when leadership challenges are cropping up every way you turn, in business, politics and industry, we think these are columns that career-climbing Globe readers can learn from, and incorporate into their own leadership philosophy.
