Leaders must listen to their staff. But before they listen, they should ask some probing questions. Here are some, courtesy of Kent Blumberg, on his blog:
What do you need most from me today?
What would you be doing differently if you couldn't fail?
What is it you don't want me to know today?
What is the simplest solution here?
What's the single most important question I could ask you?
What question are you hoping I will not ask you?
What ties all of this together?
What do you need to do next?
What is your vision for yourself and the people around you?
What are you really committed to underneath all of this?
What do you really want?
What do you know is true for you about this?
Based on that insight, what action can you take that would be really powerful?
Where are you stuck?
What hidden gift or talent do you have that may deserve a new place in your life?
