Brandy Damm lost her job when Caterpillar Inc. shut down its Electro-Motive Diesel plant in London, Ont., a year ago. She now works as a coordinator at the union's job action centre helping displaced workers find jobs, setting up employee assistance programs and providing them with support. About 700 workers found themselve without a job when the plant closed, 460 of which were union members. A year later, many of the laid-off workers are having a difficult time finding any work that is close to the pay and benefits they received while working at EMD.
