Three months ago, Caterpillar Inc. abruptly shuttered its locomotive plant in London, Ontario, citing reasons of cost competitiveness. Kelly Gordon, a welder and single mother, was one of about 700 workers who lost their jobs that day. The Globe and Mail recently caught up with Ms. Gordon, who is still unemployed, living off her severance package and working one day a week at the local job action centre.
