GoodLife Fitness has bought Extreme Fitness Inc., a competitor with 13 locations in the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding region.

The acquisition increases the number of locations operated by Canada's largest fitness chain to more than 300 across Canada, including 82 in the GTA.

Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

"We are thrilled to be acquiring these 13 new locations across the GTA to further grow the options of locations for our members and to welcome the Extreme Fitness members to the GoodLife family," founder and CEO David Patchell-Evans said in a statement Monday.

Founded in 1979, GoodLife Fitness is the largest fitness company in Canada, employing some 12,600 people and boasting more than 877,000 members.
