Nordstrom Inc. is an upscale department-store chain based in Seattle, with 231 stores in the United States, including its Rack off-price outlets.

Nordstrom carries conservatively stylish fashions and a wide range of footwear. It is also known for its highly-rated customer service, with no time restrictions on purchase returns at its mainstream stores.

In the seventies when Nordstrom opened a store in Fairbanks, Alaska, it gave a woman a refund for a tire she brought in, even though the retailer doesn’t sell tires. The store that had occupied the space previously had sold tires.

Nordstrom’s same-store sales jumped by 8.1 per cent in June, compared with a year earlier. It’s first full-line store will be launched in New York City in 2018.

The company is teaming up with British cheap-chic chain Topshop to open in-store boutiques at Nordstrom stores this year.
