2. ROYAL ALBERTA MUSEUM A 36,000-square-metre provincial museum in downtown Edmonton due to open in 2016.STATUS: Under construction.COST: $340-million.
3. CALGARY AND EDMONTON RING ROADS A two-decade-long project to build freeways that ring both cities. STATUS: 90 per cent complete in Edmonton with 71 kilometres built; 70 per cent complete in Calgary with 70 kilometres built. COST: $6-billion spent by Alberta so far; more has been spent by Ottawa, and more spending will come.

CARBON CAPTUREThree industrial projects – Alberta Carbon Trunk Line, Shell Quest and Swan Hills Sunfuels – that the province is heavily subsidizing in hopes of reducing Alberta's greenhouse gas emissions by 4.1 million tonnes annually beginning in 2015. STATUS: Under development. COST: $2-billion committed.
