Remembering the Twinkie: 7 ads for the iconic American snack Add to ...

The news that Hostess Brands Inc. is shutting down its operations in the U.S. also represents the death of another iconic brand: the seemingly indestructible Twinkies snack cakes.

Of course, Twinkies will not disappear entirely – a Twinkie is in the White House Millennium Council’s time capsule, likely in the same state of unnatural squishiness as when it was packed more than 10 years ago – and inventory will continue to stubbornly refuse to break down on dusty convenience store shelves for some time. And Canadian companies hold rights to other Hostess brands here (could Twinkies have an afterlife in Canada?)

But the end of Hostess still marks (mostly) the end of a brand that has been part of American pop culture for years. Here in partial memoriam, a collection of some iconic Twinkies advertisements through the decades.
