Bombardier commuter train.
Bombardier Transportation has won a $427-million (U.S.) order from Germany's S-Bahn GmbH for 60 commuter trains to be used in Hamburg.
The contract also includes options for up to 86 more single and dual-voltage trains until the end of 2018.
It is the first time Bombardier has won a contract from the subsidiary of DB Regio AG without a partner.
The three-car units will have wide aisles and will for the first time be equipped for Hamburg with a compact air conditioning system.
The single-voltage trains can travel up to 100 km/h while the dual-voltage trains can reach maximum speeds of 140 km/h.
The first eight trains will be delivered by the end of 2016 for a 40-week testing period. Delivery of the remaining 52 trains will then begin and be completed by the end of 2018.
Design, engineering and final assembly of the trains will take place at the Bombardier plant in Hennigsdorf, Germany.
