Marcia Moffat will join BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, in September, taking the role over from Noel Archard.ERIC THAYER/Reuters

BlackRock Inc., the world's largest money manager, hired Marcia Moffat to head its Canadian business.

Moffat will join in September, taking the role over from Noel Archard, the New York-based firm said in a statement Thursday. Moffat, who was most recently principal of consulting firm Compasar Solutions, spent 12 years at Royal Bank of Canada where she held roles in retail banking, investor relations and capital markets.

"We believe that in the evolving regulatory environment, her deep roots in the Canadian retail sector of the financial services industry positions her, and the firm, well for the next leg of growth in Canada," Robert Fairbairn, a senior managing director at BlackRock said in the statement.

During Archard's three years as head of Canada, he diversified BlackRock's business by adding fixed income and alternative accounts, according to the statement. The firm manages about $4.7 trillion globally.
