Mega Brands loss widens on plunging sales Add to ...

Mega Brands Inc. , a maker

of toys and other children's products, reported its first quarter net loss nearly tripled to $25.9 (U.S.) on a plunge

in sales. The Montreal company said late Wednesday

it lost 71 cents a share for the three months ended March 31, compared with a net loss of $9.6-million or 26 cents a share in the year-ago period. Net sales fell to $43.5-million from $79.4-million, said Mega Brands. Sales of toys fell more than half to $23.4-million from $47.2-million, while sales of stationery and activities products declined to $20.1- million from $32.2-million. MB-T (TSX) closed at 39 cents, unchanged.
