Take a look inside South Korea's Shinsegae Centum City, a sprawling retail mecca
Size does matter — especially in South Korea’s retail market. Shinsegae Centum City in the coastal city of Busan, is owned by the Shinsegae Corporation, measures over 31 acres and employs about 5,000 salespeople. It’s certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest department store. Macy’s was the previous record holder for the largest department store.
The department store’s eight floors feature over 680 stores and brands such as Hermes, Givenchy, Chanel, Cartier, Prada, and Fendi. The store also offers frequent shoppers three levels of VIP lounges with the top lounge category being reserved for those who spend $40,000-$100,000 a year.
In addition to the eight floors of the department store, the mall has several buildings, which include an office tower, a golf course, a driving range, a movie theatre, a spa and an ice rink.
The indoor rink can accommodate 500 skaters. Shinsegae Centum City cost about $1.1 billion (U.S.) to build.
