The total value of a publicly traded company’s shares is a sign of investors’ enthusiasm about its prospects. But remember Bre-X and Nortel? A bloated market cap can be a sign of irrational exuberance.

On the plus side RIM is already incredibly cheap, and somebody is bound to consider it a bargain at some point. And it’s not like the social network has a cash problem – the Facebook IPO alone generated about three times RIM’s current market cap.
