Hyperstealth Biotechnology by the numbers

Special to Globe and Mail Update

Over the past decade, the founder of HyperStealth Biotechnology, Guy Cramer, has created more than 10,000 unique camouflage patterns and assisted with or supplied designs to military and police forces in about 40 countries.

  • Sixty-seven of his designs have gone into some form of large-scale textile production, producing more than 1.9 million uniforms world-wide, including 390,000 for the Jordanian Armed Forces and police and 1.1 million for the Afghan National Army, one of several lucrative contracts he has secured through the U.S military.
  • The camouflage has been used on a range of firearms and more than 3,000 military vehicles.
  • In the past year, HyperStealth has forged an agreement with the makers of Gore-Tex to carry three of its hunting patterns and Mr. Cramer said it is entertaining partnerships with a handful of other “major” clothing manufacturers.
  • Mr. Cramer has just finished printing one of his designs on about 400 yards of high-end fabric. The bolts of material, he said, will be made into uniforms by a company in Virginia Beach and then shipped to “a special forces unit” in a country that, for competitive reasons, he does not wish to name.
  • Mr. Cramer is also working on a high-level project to supply uniforms for the U.S. Navy Seals, but he’s prohibited from talking about what kind of mission or terrain is involved.
  • During a trip to the top-secret U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Washington last month, where he met with senior brass about new camouflage technologies his company is developing, Mr. Cramer was accompanied by an armed guard “every step of the way.”
