Google buys Canadian gaming company SocialDeck

The Canadian Press

Canadian social gaming company SocialDeck has been acquired by U.S. search engine giant Google Inc. GOOG-Q.

SocialDeck, founded in 2008, creates games that allow for simultaneous, viral multiplayer games across a variety of mobile devices and social networks. It had more than one million mobile downloads last year.

The company's games include Shake and Spell and Pet Hero.

“SocialDeck's team and technology is a perfect addition to our current team of engineers in Waterloo, to continue to innovate in the social and mobile web,” Google Canada spokeswoman Wendy Rozeluk said.

The price of the acquisition wasn't disclosed.
