As the outlook for Greece's economy continues to remain dark, some entrepreneurs are trying to inject rays of sunshine by creating co-working spaces for startups, reports this piece in The New York Times.

These entrepreneurs pushing back against the country's financial crisis are taking advantage of depressed real estate prices to buy up properties and open spaces where entrepreneurs can find "fellowship, mentors, and maybe even access to capital," the piece reports.

"Entrepreneurship is the way out of this. There is no other way. Greece has been an insular economy for too long," the article quotes Stavros Messinis, a co-founder of one of the co-working spaces called coLab. It launched 18 months ago in Athens, now operates a 4,300-square-foot space that has become home to 16 startups, and hopes to soon open two more locations, the article reports.

Interestingly, some companies are operating in Greece, but have formally incorporated in other places to avoid the "Hellenic headaches" of trying to create businesses in the beleaguered country, the article reports.
