CIBC signal outside of the bank's building at King and Bay St., Toronto.

CIBC World Markets announced a number of new hires in the past week, and many of the new positions are located outside of Canada, demonstrating the investment bank's desire to expand internationally.

In Sydney, Robert Tiley is joining the firm as head of corporate credit products for Asia. He has 25 years of experience and was most recently with WestLB AG in Sydney as an executive director in infrastructure financing. CIBC hopes he will expand their own project finance and infrastructure lending businesses.

In London, Anton du Plessis is heading to CIBC to become an executive director in the mining investment banking team. He has been in the industry for over 15 years and has experience covering European and South African names from London. He was last with Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Mehdi El Jazouli is also joining the firm in London as a director in commodities trading. He was last with Nomura Securities.

And in Toronto, Paul Larkin is a new executive director in prime services, joining CIBC from Macquarie where he was head of the delta one desk.
