Former Globe and Mail editor-in-chief John Stackhouse is joining Canada's largest bank in a senior role.
Mr. Stackhouse, 52, who departed The Globe last March after more than 24 years with the paper – including stints as a foreign correspondent, editor of Report on Business and almost five years as the paper's chief editor – this week joined Royal Bank of Canada as an adviser to chief executive officer David McKay. Mr. Stackhouse's official title is senior vice-president, office of the CEO.
In his new role with the country's most valuable company, Mr. Stackhouse is charged with bringing an outside perspective to the bank on a range of issues, and helping to shape and disseminate the bank's views on big issues internally and to clients. In an internal announcement, Mr. McKay said Mr. Stackhouse "will be responsible for gathering and interpreting global economic, business, political and social trends and providing our leadership team and board with insights about how these factors affect RBC, our clients and society at large….As one of the most globally respected financial institutions, it is important for us to have a broader impact on addressing key issues affecting business and society."
Mr. Stackhouse has also penned a new book, Mass Disruption: How the Digital Revolution is Changing What You Read, which will be published this fall by Random House. He is the author of two previous books.
