Global Maxfin Capital is adding to its ranks again, bringing on a former co-head of research from Desjardins Securities Inc. as a special situations analyst.

The firm has hired Joe MacKay, bringing its complement of fully fledged analysts to two. Mr. MacKay has a decade of experience covering telecom firms, with most of that time spent at Desjardins Securities. He was co-head of research there, as well as covering telecom, cable and media companies. He has also worked at Scotia Capital and Mackie Research Capital.

At Toronto-based Global Maxfin, he will be a special situations analyst.

Global Maxfin is part of the Global group of companies, which includes asset management and insurance, all founded by entrepreneur Sam Bouji.

Global Maxfin recently hired Nick Savona, a long time sales and trading presence on Bay Street. The firm also built a presence in electronic execution, a niche that is increasingly important in a soft market for equity trading.
