GMP Securities is filling a hole in its research coverage of base metals companies by bringing over an analyst from CIBC World Markets.
Mining is the bread and butter business for GMP, and the company lost a pair of analysts in base metals earlier this year to a rival dealer.
The new hire, Ian Parkinson, will be a director specializing in researching Canadian base metals companies.
He spent four years at CIBC. Before that he was at boutiques, with his last stop at Versant Partners, so he will be familiar with the culture at GMP.
He also worked in the mining industry at Falconbridge and Noranda (both since acquired), according to an online biography for a conference at which he spoke.
GMP Securities is a unit of GMP Capital Inc.
