RBC Capital Markets has hired Simon Ballard as a director and senior credit strategist in London, continuing its investment banking hiring spree.

It might not have made any blockbuster acquisitions yet with its ever-growing capital hoard, but Canada's biggest bank, now the 14th largest in the world, has hired more than 400 capital markets people globally in the last year.

Mr. Ballard, who has more than 20 years of experience in the industry and was most recently head of European credit strategy at Creditsights, will report to Roger Appleyard, RBC's head of global credit research.

Mr. Appleyard said that Mr. Ballard is part of the group's plan to build out its global cross asset class research platform, and he will be focused on credit strategy in the euro and sterling markets.
