Salman hires in energy banking, research Add to ...

Boutique brokerage Salman Partners is beefing up in the business of energy, hiring a new banker and a new analyst to cover the sector.

Being a boutique investment dealer in Canada is a tough place to be, with markets struggling and financings slowing down. In that environment, a presence in Calgary is a must because it's one of the few reliable sources of deals.

Steve Calderwood is coming back to Salman, where he worked almost a decade ago as a research analyst. But this time, Mr. Calderwood will be a senior vice-president in investment banking. Most recently, he was at Talisman Energy as a vice-president of planning and performance management.

The firm also hired Justin Anderson as a research analyst covering oil and gas companies. Mr. Anderson was in the investment banking department at BMO in 2009 and 2010. After that, he founded a company that did modelling of exploration companies.
