Sun News Network may soon find itself in every household in Canada, but it will be without one of its most controversial personalities.
Krista Erickson quit her slot on the news network’s “flagship daytime show” Canada Live late last week and moved to London, sources confirmed. The Gemini-nominated journalist is probably best known for her 2011 interview of Canadian dancer Margie Gillis, in which she mocked and insulted the artist as she questioned her about public funding for the arts.
The interview led to more than 6,000 complaints to the ethics council that governs broadcasters, so many that the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council had to ask viewers to stop sending complaints while it investigated the segment. It ruled Ms. Erickson hadn’t done anything wrong, however, arguing it was her right to ask questions in any manner she pleased.
Ms. Erickson moved to Sun News from the CBC, and was one of its most prominent names when it launched in 2011. On the day Sun Media went live, she was featured as a Sunshine Girl in the chain’s newspapers. Sun Media has not said how it will fill the slot.
