Advanced Search Help

You can search our articles more efficiently if you know how to refine your search terms. With Advanced Search, you can search only for pages:

• Articles that contain ALL the search terms you type in:
  cats and dogs

• Articles that contain the exact phrase you type in:
  "cats and dogs"

• Articles containing at least one of the words you type in:
  cats or dogs

• Articles that do NOT contain the words you exclude:
  cats not dogs

• Articles that are classed as music:
  subject<contains>music

• Articles written by Jan Wong:
  author<contains>jan wong

• All articles published on June 1, 2005:
  sortdate=20050601

• All articles published after June 1, 2005:
  sortdate>20050601

• Articles appearing on page A20 of the newspaper:
  page=a20

• All articles published on June 1, 2005 that appear on page A20 of the newspaper:
  page=a20 and sortdate=20010601

NOTE: More consistent results will be obtained by entering all searches entirely in lower case
