Liberals take lead
PM is relaxed, Pearson Smiling Though Guarded

Ottawa - Liberal Leader Lester Pearson, a smile on his face, a spring in his step, last night bounded into the National Liberal Federation headquarters to follow the election results which early in the evening showed a definite Liberal trend in Eastern Canada.
Mr. Pearson was guarded in his early comments, saying that the Liberals were obviously doing better in the Atlantic provinces than they did last June. However, he told reporters, he would not project beyond the Atlantic provinces for the time being.
The Liberal headquarters was lively with excitement as the early returns cane in by teletype. Mr. Pearson arrived at 7.30 p.m. accompanied by his special assistant Richard O'Hagan and television commentator Pierre Berton. He immediately went to a second-floor room to watch the returns coming in over the teletype machine and on television.
