Reality TV's plat du jour

NEW YORK -- Struggling actors in New York will do just about anything to get noticed. So back in April, Gideon Horowitz figured he might be able to get some attention by being first in line for a restaurant staffing call that had been promoted on The Today Show. He plunked down in front of Rocco's in the Flatiron District and propped a handwritten sign next to him that read, "I'm not a bum, I'm first in line." Twenty-six hours later, hundreds of people snaked behind him down East 22nd Street while the cameras caught Horowitz grinning like a Cheshire cat at the front. He not only got the attention he was looking for, he landed the biggest prize of all: A job as a waiter.
