The new ethnic blockbuster

MONTREAL -- When Mambo Italiano has its gala premiere tonight as part of the Toronto International Film Festival, it will already hold a place in Canadian film history. The comedy, about the outrage that occurs within a conservative Italian family in Montreal when the only son declares that he's gay, has done extremely well at the box office in its native Quebec where it opened in June. That, of course, is an extremely significant rarity for a Canadian movie shot in English.
