Forest firms on right track with focus on productivity
Looking for a good April Fools' Day joke for the Canadian forestry industry? Tell them that the softwood lumber dispute will be resolved by the end of this year.That was the sentiment expressed in one of the keynote presentations at the PricewaterhouseCoopers annual global forest and paper industry conference in Vancouver yesterday. While a resolution to the three-year-old impasse is not out of the realm of possibility, we have heard similar predictions before. The reality is much more complex, given the fact that the dispute is still being fought at two levels of government and in a variety of legal arenas.
